Gordy is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire where he earned degrees in mathematics, chemistry, and physical education. Additionally, he has a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Minnesota.

Gordy has worked as a self-employed tax and small business consultant for 23 years. Before starting his own business, he worked in the computer industry as a software development manager. Prior to that, he served in the US Armed Forces, performing statistical research while stationed at the Pentagon. Gordy specializes in tax and investment planning. He has attained the designation of Enrolled Agent, which enables him to practice before the Internal Revenue Service, and he is currently working on his Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation.
